Altoona Area High School is hosting its annual Turkey Bowl on Wednesday to raise money for the junior/senior prom. The event takes place on the school’s international field and features 10 teams competing in a single elimination tournament. Teams must consist of at least seven girls and three boys, with county football team members allowed to work as coaches but not play. Each team can have a maximum of three coaches, according to school officials.
With the registration fee of $100 per team and the sale of $1 tickets for juniors and seniors to watch the semifinal and championship games, the event is expected to raise over $1,000 for prom. Those who want to watch the tournament can do so from the sidewalk across the field, officials said.
The tournament begins in the morning with a series of single elimination matches leading up to the Lioneers dance team performing on the field with teacher partners at 12:45 p.m. The semi-finals and championship match will follow after that performance.
