The smart cart will be implemented in all Amazon Fresh stores across the United States, which are located in states such as California, Illinois, Virginia, and Washington. In addition to Fresh stores, Amazon owns Whole Foods and operates Amazon Go cashier-less stores. The company has faced challenges in the grocery sector but is committed to finding a solution that will make a significant impact on the physical grocery market.

In its annual letter to shareholders in 2023, CEO Andy Jesse highlighted Amazon’s efforts to improve its grocery business by remodeling underperforming stores and focusing on selectively opening new Fresh stores. The company has also made Just Walk Out technology available for independent retailers. Despite these challenges, Amazon remains committed to finding a balance between technology and customer preferences in its grocery business.
