Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool, may have lost his streak in sports betting, but he’s not one to be deterred. On Tuesday, Portnoy placed a huge bet on the Philadelphia Phillies to win the 2024 World Series at +600 with a potential profit of $1.2 million. The bet came just a day after he lost $70,000 on a bet on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup.

Portnoy was quick to post about his loss on Twitter, saying “The streak ended last night,” but then went on to say that he couldn’t be mad at the Oilers for their great performance. He also expressed hope that his friend’s victory would bring money to the track and start a new streak.

Despite his recent losses, Portnoy has had a profitable year so far. In November, he won $1.5 million on Michigan and followed that up with a winning bet of $500,000 on the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. In April, Portnoy had a week of success at the UConn Nationals and placed an enormous bet of $1.35 million on Scotty Scheffler’s Masters victory. With their NBA title earlier this month, the Boston Celtics earned him another $1.6 million.

In early June, Portnoy was confident in both teams’ ability to win championships and made bold predictions for their future successes. “Guys, I hate to be the guy,” he said on Twitter,” but I’ve got the Celtics for 1.1 million and the Oilers for another million.” If both teams won, Portnoy predicted that he would have made an additional 7.5 million by 2024 and have won all of the big events this year.” This run should be studied in history books.”
