Amelia had just lost her mother to lymphoma when she started feeling unwell again. The family was relieved to hear that her mother’s latest treatment was the final one, but a few days later, Amelia began to experience weakness and was unable to stand. Initially, her symptoms were attributed to the effects of treatment, but as they worsened, she developed a high fever, confusion, and difficulty speaking.
Amelia was eventually referred to Kaplan Hospital for treatment, where doctors ran multiple tests to determine the cause of her illness. After three weeks of uncertainty, they confirmed that she had contracted a serious virus. Despite being sedated and ventilated, Amelia soon passed away.
Now, Amelia wants to raise awareness about the dangers of mosquito-borne diseases and stresses the importance of taking them seriously, especially for people with weakened immune systems. She wants others to understand that a simple mosquito bite can have devastating consequences.
In the midst of personal tragedy, Amelia’s message serves as a reminder of the severity of certain illnesses and the need to be vigilant in protecting ourselves and loved ones.
