On October 7, Israeli citizens Fernando Marman and Luis Hara were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Yizhak during a violent attack by Hamas. The two men, both in their 60s, were taken along with their sister Clara Marman, 62, and her companion. A third sister Gabriela and her 17-year-old daughter Mia Leimberg were also kidnapped.

The rescue of the hostages involved intelligence services, elite units and the air force and lasted an hour and a half. The entire operation was coordinated by the war room of Shin Beta’s internal intelligence services.

At 01:49, Israeli forces stormed the apartment where the hostages were being held with explosives. The three kidnappers were killed immediately, and the special forces covered the hostages with their bodies. Following the attack by special forces, Hamas members opened fire from nearby buildings while the Israeli Air Force swung into action bombing Hamas military sites and command centers.

The escape was covered by the commandos of the 13th Naval Command and the 7th Armored Brigade. About an hour after being pulled from the apartment, Marman and Har were taken out of Rafah in armored vehicles and then put on a helicopter that took them to Israel. After medical examinations, they found both men in good condition but one who participated in raid slightly injured.

The liberation of Marman and Har is only the second successful operation of its kind since the beginning of this conflict with Hamas announced that three Israeli hostages who managed to free themselves have died in previous incidents making it eight deaths so far due to Israeli raids on Gaza Strip resulting in more than 230 people injured as per latest reports most of whom are women and children condemned by Hamas for its latest actions calling it “a widening of scale” massacre against their people
