The Sacramento Kings are reportedly interested in signing free-agent guard DeMar DeRozan, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe. Lowe describes the Kings as a “stealth DeRozan team” that could make a move to acquire the 34-year-old, six-time NBA All-Star.
If the Kings were to sign DeRozan, it would give the team a significant offensive boost and help alleviate some of the scoring pressure on players like Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox. However, Sacramento isn’t the only California team vying for DeRozan’s services, as the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat are also in contention.
Despite recent successes, the Kings have struggled to compete with the best teams in the Western Conference and haven’t won a playoff series since the 2003-2004 NBA season. Adding a talented player like DeRozan could be a game-changer for Sacramento and help take them to new heights of competitiveness. It remains to be seen whether the Kings will be able to secure DeRozan’s signature in free agency, but it’s clear they’re making an effort to land him.
