The Lunar New Year is a day of celebration, rebirth and hope for many people around the world. This year, the festivities are especially exciting because it is also the year of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac – a sign long associated with good luck and an important cultural symbol across Asia.

At DC, we wish you all a wonderful year of the Dragon, full of success, good health and prosperity. To celebrate this special occasion, we have created an exclusive illustration by Haining, the artist behind the acclaimed Spirit World miniseries. In this stunning piece of art, Xanthe Zhou, a “Spirit Envoy” from Spirit World, is shown celebrating the Lunar New Year with her loved ones.

Xanthe possesses unique abilities that allow her to create physical objects by burning Chinese paper and is a master of the occult. She has earned the respect of no less than John Constantine himself. However, in Haining’s vibrant illustration of the Lunar New Year celebration, Xanthe has set aside her responsibilities to enjoy a day filled with symbolism and joy.

Haining has provided us with notes on what everything in her artwork means so that you can fully understand its significance. We hope you have a wonderful Lunar New Year celebration!
