China Takes a Stand for Palestine: Supporting Unity Government with Hamas and Promoting Peace in the Region

The Chinese government has shown its support for the Palestinian Authority in its efforts to form a unity government with Hamas, despite years of conflict between the two groups. This comes after calls from the United States for a revitalization of the Palestinian government structure. In response, President Mahmoud Abbas reshuffled his cabinet.

China has pledged to support strengthening the Palestinian National Authority and promoting reconciliation among all Palestinian factions, including Hamas. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that recognizing Palestine would correct a historical injustice and should not be dependent on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, but rather pave the way for a two-state solution.
