On the first day of the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, China led the medal table with a total of one gold medal. Li Bingjie won silver in the women’s 400 freestyle event, while China’s men’s 4×100 freestyle relay team won gold. Pan Zhanle set a new world record in the men’s 50 meter breaststroke event.

South Korea, the Netherlands and New Zealand each had one gold medal each. The Netherlands won the women’s 4×100 freestyle relay, upsetting Australia in the process. New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather won the women’s 400 freestyle relay in a new national record.

Australia and Germany were the only other countries with two medals each. Australia won silver and bronze in various events, while Germany won silver and bronze in different events.

Silver: Australia (2), Italy (1)

Bronze: Germany (2), Canada (1), USA (1)
