EA Sports has announced that Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers will be the cover athlete for Madden 25. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time in over a decade that a quarterback has been featured on the cover of the game. The last player to appear on the cover was Adrian Peterson in 2013, with Barry Sanders being the cover athlete for next-gen systems on the game’s 25th anniversary.

McCaffrey is not only the first 49er to be featured on the cover of Madden NFL worldwide but also the first running back to grace the cover since Garrison Hurst in Madden 99. In a statement via an EA Sports press release, McCaffrey expressed his excitement about being on the cover of Madden NFL, calling it a career achievement and an honor he shares with his teammates, coaches, and 49er Faithful. As the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, McCaffrey led the league in various statistics during the 2023-24 season, such as scrimmage yards, rushing yards, and total touchdowns.
