The college basketball landscape has undergone significant changes as the coaching merry-go-round continues to spin. On Monday, several big moves were made, reshaping the landscape and creating new opportunities and challenges for the programs involved.

One of the most notable changes was Stanford’s recruitment of Kyle Smith, who had been leading James Madison to impressive success over the past four seasons. Byington has built a formidable mid-major contender at James Madison, posting an impressive 82-36 record during his tenure. Just hours after their NCAA Tournament loss, where they finished 32-4 and went on an impressive run, Byington made a quick hire by joining Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt’s decision to hire Byington means that only three top coaching positions remain open: Louisville, Oklahoma State and SMU. Coaching changes have reshaped the college basketball landscape and set the stage for new opportunities and challenges for the programs involved.
