The latest report released by CNBC/National Retail Foundation (NRF) predicts that consumers will continue to spend through 2024, with core retail sales up 3.2% year-over-year in January and retail sales in six of nine categories. The report was published ahead of Thursday’s U.S. retail sales data from the Census Bureau, which will provide more insight into consumer spending. Despite the generally positive outlook, households’ views on personal finances and the economy are brighter as high inflation continues to fade, and most people report that their finances are better than a year ago. However, attitudes about the labor market were less optimistic, with people expressing less confidence in finding another job in the next three months.
