Continued Access to Quality Care for Thousands of North Carolina Patients: New UNC Health-UnitedHealthcare Agreement

Thousands of North Carolina patients will continue to have access to quality care at UNC clinics and hospitals thanks to a long-term agreement signed by UNC Health with UnitedHealthcare. The previous contract was set to expire on April 1, but the new agreement covers patients on United’s commercial plans, Individual Exchange and Medicare Advantage plans.

Dr. Matt Evend, chief clinical officer at UNC Health, said the new agreement will benefit patients across the state by avoiding the increased costs and stress of going out of network or finding new providers for their care. Negotiations between UNC Health and UnitedHealthcare began last year, and a new deal was reached this week. This agreement follows a similar long-term contract recently announced with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

UNC Health is committed to providing quality care and maintaining strong relationships with insurance providers for the benefit of its patients.
