World-class gymnast Dipa Karmakar is returning to competition after a five-year hiatus as she prepares to represent her country at the World Gymnastics Championships in Cairo, Egypt from February 15-18. Despite an injury to her right leg, Ms. Karmakar is determined to excel in show jumping, her only event in the upcoming championships. Her father, Dulal Karmakar, who lives in Abhoj Nagar, spoke about his daughter’s determination and said: “She has not fully recovered from surgery on her right leg, but I believe she will bring honor to the country with her performance.”

Ms. Karmakar’s coach, Vishveshwar Nandy, expressed confidence in her abilities but also expressed concern over her injury. He stated: “She has not fully recovered from surgery on her right leg, but I believe she will bring honor to the country with her performance.” Ms. Karmakar had earlier shared her determination to bring success to her country and sought blessings and prayers from all. She faced a career setback when she was banned for three years due to a doping controversy, but has worked diligently to clear her name and prove herself at the World Championships.

The Tripura State Gymnastics Association and fellow gymnasts also extended their best wishes to Ms. Karmakar as she leaves for Cairo on Monday.
