The Mississippi Museum of Natural Sciences in Jackson has a variety of exciting events planned for visitors in April. Museum Director Charles Knight is thrilled to offer these opportunities for the local community to connect with one another and appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

One of the events taking place in April is the Solar Eclipse Event on Monday, April 8 from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. Advance tickets are required, with a $10 fee that includes eclipse glasses. Participants can join NASA Astro Camp experts and museum educators for hands-on activities and witness 90% of the solar eclipse. Food trucks will be available on site for an additional fee.

Naturefest will be held on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event includes meeting live animals from the Hattiesburg Zoo and learning about Freedom Ranch, meeting the Crab Man, exploring the museum’s research labs, enjoying a giant foam party, purchasing a plant from Camp Creek Native Plants, viewing the “Attack of the Bloodsuckers!” exhibit , and navigating the Spoter’s Adventure Trail to LeFleur’s Bluff Playground. Food trucks will also be at the event for an additional fee, which is included with MMNS Foundation membership or museum admission.

On Friday, April 19, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Moonlight, Music and Meteors event will take place in “The Den” at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park . This event offers a night under the stars with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and area physicists, astronomers and NASA solar system ambassadors during the Lyrid meteor shower . Advance tickets for this event are $15 until April 18 at noon
