Dodgers Ink $140 Million Contract with Catcher Will Smith: Adding More Muscle to an Already Formidable Team

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced a $140 million, 10-year contract with catcher Will Smith, bringing their spending on key players since December to nearly $1.4 billion. This new deal replaces a one-year, $8.85 million deal previously reached in January.

At 28, Smith was a first-time All-Star last year and had a strong season with a .261 average, 19 homers and 76 RBI. In six seasons with the Dodgers, he has a .263 average with 91 homers and 308 RBIs. The latest signing brings the total commitment of the Dodgers to $1,365,687,500 for five key players.

This includes two-way star Shohei Ohtani ($700 million over 10 years), right-handers Yoshinobu Yamamoto ($325 million over 12 years) and Tyler Glasnow ($136,562,500 over five years), outfielder Teoscar Hernandez ($23.5 million over a year) and now Will Smith.

Smith started the week strong by going 5-for-10 with two RBIs during a two-game series in Seoul, South Korea against San Diego. With this latest signing, the Dodgers have solidified their position as one of the most formidable teams in baseball today.
