In 2023, Duluth welcomed four cruise ships that brought over 4,000 passengers to the city. The influx of visitors contributed nearly $600,000 in direct spending to the city, supporting a variety of businesses including shops, restaurants, carriers, tour operators and small businesses in Duluth and other Great Lakes ports.

Cruising the Great Lakes has become an increasingly popular destination as evidenced by the more than 25,000 passengers who made 800 visits to Great Lakes ports in 2023, an increase of over 20% from the previous year.

Anna Tanski, director of tourism for Cruise the Great Lakes, highlighted the organization’s commitment to promoting unique cruise experiences available in the region. She expressed her excitement about the growing popularity of Great Lakes cruising as a destination.

Dan Hartman, executive director of the Duluth Convention and Entertainment Center expressed his delight at the influx of visitors to Duluth stating that many would not have come otherwise and have now discovered the city’s appeal.
