In recent news, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) announced a $3 million expansion of OPmobility’s plant in Spring Hill. The auto technology maker will expand its exterior group to offer more electric vehicle manufacturing products, resulting in the addition of 186 new jobs at the plant. According to the TNECD announcement, the factory currently has only 18 employees.
OPmobility, formerly known as Plastic Omnium, has been in Tennessee since 2015 with locations in Chattanooga, Smyrna, Hendersonville and Spring Hill. The company, based in France, employs over 560 people across the country. This expansion is seen as another example of the auto industry booming in Tennessee.
TNECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter expressed his appreciation for foreign investment in the state, emphasizing the importance of companies like OPmobility in contributing to Tennessee’s reputation as a business-friendly state. The statement did not mention any special incentives given by TNECD for the expansion project.
Operations Director of OPmobility in the USA, Xavier Mauri, highlighted the company’s enthusiasm for accepting new challenges in the transformation of the automotive industry towards mobility. Founded in 1946, OPmobility provides automotive and mobility manufacturers with a range of exterior systems and advanced electrification technologies, including battery and hydrogen solutions.
