The U.S. U-17 team is set to face Germany in the round of 16 of the U-17 World Cup on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. ET, with the goal of reaching the quarterfinals for just the second time in 18 years (appearing in seven of the eight tournaments held in that time).
Despite their impressive performance during group stage, where they won two of their three games against South Korea and Burkina Faso, as well as a convincing victory over France 3-0 to finish second in Group E, the USA U-17 national team has only been to the semifinals once before, back in 1999 when Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley and Kyle Beckerman were rising stars.
On the other hand, Germany’s results at this tournament have been nothing short of stellar, with victories over Mexico, New Zealand and Venezuela during group stage. Now, they are set to take on a determined USA team led by Liverpool youngster Keylor Figueroa (son of ex-Honduras international Maynor), Charlotte striker Nympha Berchimas (three goals so far) and San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Cruz Medina.
If you want to catch this exciting matchup between two powerhouse teams, tune into NBC Universo at 3:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday (November 21) or stream it online through Telemundo Deportes and their app.
