A rumor has been circulating about the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro that it will feature a colored glass back system, similar to the one introduced with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This new feature is said to improve durability and produce more vibrant colors.

According to a post on Chinese social media site Weibo, Apple plans to use the same color input technology for the iPhone 16 Pro that was first seen on the 2023 iPhone 15 models. The device is expected to come in black, white, gray, and pink.

Apple touted this color application method as an “industry first,” saying it creates five beautiful colors by applying color to the back glass. The back glass is reinforced with a double ion exchange process, polished with nanocrystalline particles and etched to create a luxurious matte finish. The phone’s aircraft-grade aluminum body will also have rounded edges for added comfort.

If these rumors are true, it would be a departure from Apple’s usual practice of rolling out new features to Pro models first before trickling down to regular models in subsequent years. However, the leaker sharing this information has published more Apple rumors this year and their track record of accuracy is not strong. Inconsistent leaks have suggested that the phone could come in yellow or cement instead of black, white, gray, and pink.
