The PACT (Pledge to Address Comprehensive Toxicity) legislation has been expanded to cover more veterans across the United States. On Monday, Rep. Joe Morelle (D-25) and local officials gathered in Rochester to discuss the second phase of this legislation, which takes effect this month.

Jason Richards, Outreach Program Coordinator at the VA, explained that the full implementation of the law means that veterans who may have health problems from exposure to toxic materials are now covered in a wide variety of situations. This new provision allows for conversations about toxic exposure regardless of combat and as more veterans become eligible for VA health care.

Originally intended to help veterans exposed to things like burn pits and Agent Orange in Vietnam, the PACT Act now covers toxic exposures for veterans at any location. Morelle expressed his gratitude to the Veterans Administration for quickly approving the implementation of this new health insurance coverage. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that veterans and their families receive the benefits they deserve, as exposure to toxins can affect not only veterans but also their family members.

It is estimated that there are thousands of veterans in the Finger Lakes region and many more across the country who will benefit from these expanded regulations. Morelle and local VA representatives are working hard to spread awareness among eligible veterans so that they can take advantage of this new coverage. Additional information can be found on the VA website.

The PACT Act is a significant step towards providing better healthcare services for American heroes who have been exposed to toxic materials while serving their country. It’s important for all eligible veterans to know about this new coverage and take advantage of it as soon as possible.
