On Monday, April 8th, our location will experience a rare phenomenon known as a near total solar eclipse. This event occurs when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, causing darkness to fall over our area. At approximately 3:25 PM that day, the sun will almost completely block the moon, creating an unforgettable moment for all to witness.

This is an excellent opportunity for everyone at this location to come out and safely observe this phenomenon. All Pine Bush students will have a half day on Monday, April 8th, with all after school activities either canceled or rescheduled. Be sure to check with your counselor or coach for more information.

It is essential to take proper precautions while viewing the eclipse to avoid any damage to your eyesight. Approved eclipse glasses are the only safe way to view the eclipse without risking permanent blindness. Sunglasses, blue blockers or regular glasses are not enough protection during this event. It is crucial to get approved eclipse glasses from a variety of sources or simply enjoy the midday eclipse without looking directly at the sun.

The partial solar eclipse in Orange County, New York will begin on Monday, April 8th at 2:10 PM and peak at 3:25 PM before ending at 4:36 PM for a total of 2 hours and 26 minutes. For more information about this upcoming event, visit NASA’s website or check with local retailers or libraries where they may still have distributed free solar eclipse glasses.
