Exploring India’s Future: 21st Century India Center Hosts Event on Economic Challenges and Opportunities

The Center for 21st Century India at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy is hosting an event titled “India’s Economy in the Next Quarter Century: Opportunities and Challenges” on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. . The event will be held in the Malamud Conference Room at the American Institute and is open to individuals 18 and older. Admission is free for all attendees.

In recent years, India has celebrated its 75th anniversary of independence and has seen remarkable changes in the country. Today, India is the most populous country in the world, the fifth largest global economy, and one of the fastest growing economies globally. Despite these achievements, India still faces fundamental challenges on its development path.

Organized by the 21st Century India Center at UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy, this event brings together leading economists to discuss current research insights and explore how future academic work can tackle India’s most pressing economic issues over the next quarter century. Michael Kremer, a University Professor at the University of Chicago and co-recipient of the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences will deliver a keynote address. Additionally, Karthik Muralidharan from UC San Diego will give a special lecture based on his book Accelerating India’s Development.
