On May 29, Garden City High School held its annual Science Research Symposium to celebrate its students’ achievements in science research. The event began with the reception of student posters in the high school library, where those present had the opportunity to view student research projects with refreshments. Dr. Ramana V. Davuluri, a professor at Stony Brook University, was the guest speaker and he discussed the role of artificial intelligence in biomedical research in his talk titled “Development and Application of Deep Learning Algorithms in Biomedical Informatics Methods.”
Several awards were presented during the symposium, including James Nagler who won first place for his project at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair, Mannat W. Jain who won second place at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair, Amy Hong Xiao won first place for her project in biochemistry at the New York State Science and Engineering Fair, and Sarah Finney and Alison Hsi won first place for their project in Alternative Energy at To the American Chemical Society Chemagination.
The school district expressed its gratitude to the Garden City Friends of STEAM for their generous funding and contribution to the success of the Science Research Symposium.
