Florida is hosting its first Super Bowl with legal sports betting this weekend, thanks to recent changes in the state’s gambling laws. Sports betting can now be done in person at Hard Rock casinos or online through the Hard Rock app or website. Many Floridians, including Manny Cuevas, are excited about the long-overdue legalization of sports betting, believing it’s the perfect time for Florida to join in on the action.
Even non-gamblers like Maurice Jones, who operates Sneakers Sports Grille, see the benefits of legal sports betting. With more visitors coming in during football season and a wider range of sports to bet on, Jones expects a significant increase in business.
The American Gaming Association predicts that 68 million Americans will place $23.1 billion in bets on Super Bowl 58. Cuevas has been enjoying placing bets through the Hard Rock system since it became legal in Florida, with an increase in his wagers each week.
While Jones supports legal sports betting, he personally doesn’t plan on getting involved. The closest thing he gets to gambling is participating in fantasy leagues. However, resources are available for those struggling with gambling addiction. The National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER provides assistance in connecting individuals with local resources.
