The Marine Fisheries Science Center (SCEMFIS) has welcomed Community Offshore Wind as the newest member of its Industry Advisory Board (IAB). Community Offshore Wind is a joint venture between RVE and National Grid Ventures, which holds the largest offshore wind lease area in the New York Bight. The project aims to balance the needs of existing ocean users and the growing wind energy sector.

As Fisheries Manager for Community Offshore Wind, Deirdre Boelke expressed her commitment to successful co-existence with commercial and recreational fisheries. They believe in the SCEMFIS approach, where science and industry work together for sustainable fisheries. By joining the industry advisory board, Community Offshore Wind wants to work closely with SCEMFIS and other stakeholders to ensure the success of its project while minimizing negative impacts on fisheries.

The US offshore wind industry presents an opportunity for the fishing industry, researchers and developers to find innovative solutions to build resilient fisheries in the face of climate change and other challenges. This cooperation between the offshore wind industry and the fishing sector is crucial for the sustainable development of offshore wind projects.
