Fox Sports and AEG are set to launch a new postseason college basketball tournament called the College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas, taking place from March 31 to April 6, 2025. The tournament will feature 16 teams playing games in MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena, both of which have previously hosted college basketball games, including the Pac-12 Tournament.

Teams that do not qualify for the NCAA Tournament will have the opportunity to participate in the College Basketball Crown. The Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East conferences will each have two automatic entries, while the remaining teams will be selected by a committee. Fox Sports Executive Vice President Jordan Bazant expressed his excitement about providing more opportunities for student-athletes to compete in high-quality postseason college hoops.

The College Basketball crown is expected to be a primary contender for the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), which is currently run by the NCAA. The NIT recently changed its selection process to include more teams from power-six conferences. However, some schools, including eight from power conferences, declined invitations to participate in the 32-team NIT this season.

The NIT traces its roots back to 1938 when games were played at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While the Finals returned to the Garden last year, the Final Four was held in Las Vegas this year. The College Basketball crown aims to provide an exciting and competitive alternative for teams not participating in the NCAA Tournament and enhance the postseason basketball experience for players and fans.

Fans can expect high quality games as well as excitement as they watch their favorite teams compete for a chance to win this new tournament.

In conclusion, Fox Sports and AEG’s new tournament offers a fresh perspective on postseason college basketball with its unique format and opportunities for teams outside of traditional powerhouse conferences. With its emphasis on providing top-notch competition and enhancing player experience, it’s sure to become a fan favorite soon.
