On Monday afternoon, the Franklin Science Center was evacuated due to the smell of something burning detected in the building. At 3:24 p.m., SU News sent out a mass email notifying the campus community of the situation. Emergency vehicles from the Shippensburg Fire Department and SUPD, along with university facilities, responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m.
Authorities determined that Room 108 of the Franklin Science Center was the suspected source of the odor and facility staff were seen inspecting it thoroughly. The SU facilities team continued to survey the area after the building was reopened at 3:15 p.m., but they remained on scene to investigate the cause of the odor fully.
This is still a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
