From Dough to Painted Perfection: How a Mother-Daughter Duo Found Success with Baking and Sourdough Classes

Amanda Flann is a mother who started her own business, As Much As You Knead, in January 2022. She began selling baked goods through direct-to-consumer, front-porch pickup in June of that year. Her daughter, Scotty, is always close by and helps her with the baking process. Flann believes that this time with her daughter is irreplaceable and wants to make sure she never feels second in her job.

The business was founded during a challenging season of life for Flann. She found baking to be a relaxing activity and wanted to start her own business so she could stay home with her daughter. In December 2022, she began offering sourdough classes which she enjoys as an extrovert and people person.

For Mother’s Day last year, Flann offered pre-painted bread decorated with flowers as a unique gift. Now she and her daughter are preparing to hold a class together where loved ones and their children will be able to make their own painted bread. Flann believes this class is a special opportunity for her and her daughter to work together and share the joy of baking with others.

The “Mommy and Me Sourdough Painting” class will be held on Saturday, May 11th at Polly’s Place Coffee from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. The cost is $45 per person, and participants will each receive a freshly baked sourdough loaf which they can decorate with food coloring and markers. Flan expresses gratitude for the opportunity to work with her youngest best friend and teach others the art of baking.
