On this day, exactly 60 years ago, US President John F. Kennedy, also known as JFK or Jack, faced a tragic family history that would continue to haunt him throughout his presidency. His sister Rosemary was left completely immobile after a terrible and inhumane lobotomy at the age of 23. Two years later, Kathleen died in a plane crash in the French Alps at the age of 18. Older brother Joe died in a war plane at the age of 29. Their brother Robert died in 1968 during his campaign for the presidential elections. The family’s tragedies did not end there, as their children would also die in the years to come. The story of the Kennedy family is one filled with hard-to-explain losses and heartache. Read more about their struggles in the supplement that comes out with the printed edition on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
