Giants Pick Malik Nabers 6th Overall, Bringing Explosive Receiving Threat to New York

On Thursday night, the New York Giants selected Malik Nabers with the 6th pick in the NFL Draft. The team was hoping that Nabbers would provide the explosive receiving threat they’ve lacked since Odell Beckham Jr. was a first-round pick in 2014. Known for his physicality, elite ball skills, and route-running ability after an impressive season at LSU where he caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns.

With quarterback Daniel Jones recovering from ACL surgery and his availability to start the season uncertain, some thought the Giants might trade up and select a quarterback. However, with Chicago, Washington, and New England taking quarterbacks with the top three picks, the Giants stuck with Nabbers. Jones, who will soon turn 27, has led the team to one spot in the 2022 playoffs since becoming the 2019 starter as the No. 6 overall pick.

The Giants struggled offensively last season, finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs after making a run in 2022. Nabers will join a receiving group that includes Darius Slayton, Van’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and Isaiah Hodgins.
