The Ministry of Energy has called on EDF to renegotiate contracts signed with SMEs during the energy crisis. EDF responded to this call and announced its commitment to renegotiating contracts that were signed at the highest prices, which is crucial for the companies involved. This was confirmed by Bruno Le Maire after taking part in EDF’s executive committee, the first time a minister has done so since the group was fully nationalized in June 2023.

The Confederation of French Traders (CDF) has raised concerns about the pricing terms of companies that locked in long-term electricity contracts signed at the highest prices during the energy price spike in 2022. These contracts are now considered unfair due to the significant fall in energy prices since then. Professional organizations such as the CDF, the Group of Hotels and Restaurants of France (GHR) and the Union of Hoteliers and Industries (UMIH) have called on the government to intervene and facilitate negotiations with electricity suppliers to adjust prices.

According to CDF, many small businesses are paying extremely high electricity prices compared to current market prices, despite falling energy prices. The Minister also called on EDF to mobilize resources to ensure the successful completion of the new nuclear reactor program. This program involves building six new nuclear reactors and is considered one of Europe’s largest industrial projects. Priorities set for EDF include extending the life of existing power plants, increasing electricity production and implementing a nuclear recovery program by building new EPR2 type reactors.
