Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital in Houston will distribute 2,000 gun locks to patients, visitors and the general public as part of their efforts to promote firearms safety. The initiative, which is being held in September to coincide with National Suicide Prevention Month, aims to encourage safe storage of firearms. The gun locks were donated to the hospital by the National Rifle Foundation’s ChildSafe Project.
Recognized as a Level 1 trauma facility, Ben Taub Hospital handles approximately 6,200 trauma cases annually. These cases include serious motor vehicle accidents, crime victims and industrial accidents. Trauma is classified as blunt or penetrating injuries, both of which are potentially life-threatening. The distribution of gun locks is intended to contribute to the general safety and well-being of the community.
