The global crisis of forced displacement has prompted a call for collective action that emphasizes the importance of self-reliance in providing sustainable solutions for refugees, forcibly displaced individuals and stateless persons. This call highlights the critical role of economic inclusion and social protection in enabling these populations to meet their basic needs, work, use their skills, and contribute to the local economy.
To address this issue, the Mega Pledge on Economic Inclusion and Social Protection has been launched to mobilize the commitment of various actors in improving the self-reliance of refugees, forcibly displaced individuals and stateless persons, as well as host communities. The pledge aims to respond to specific and structural barriers and risks that hinder these populations’ resilience to shocks.
The pledge emphasizes the need for inclusive legal and policy frameworks that promote economic inclusion and social protection. It includes implementing policies and programs to reduce the lifelong consequences of poverty and exclusion. Commitments are supported by evidence-based programs, technical assistance, and funding mechanisms that will enable refugees, forcibly displaced individuals, stateless persons, and host communities to achieve self-reliance.
