ECU Health Medical Center is hosting a “Pause to Give Life Event” Wednesday morning to honor organ donors and recipients, rain or shine. Despite only about 50 percent of North Carolina adults being registered organ donors, over 100,000 people are waiting for organ and tissue donations in the state and nationally, according to Greenville Hospital.

As part of the event, ECU Health will raise the Donate Life flag at 10:08 a.m., followed by a 30-second moment of silence to recognize donors, their families, those waiting to donate and recipients who have received the gift of life. The specific start time of 10:08 symbolizes that one donor can save eight lives. The event will be held at the flagpole of the ECU Medical Center at 2100 Stantonsburg Road.

In light of the weather conditions and the day of the first alert, the hospital plans to hold a flag-raising ceremony outside at the flagpole. However, if it rains, the ceremony will be moved to the chapel at the hospital. Copyright 2024 VITN. All rights reserved.
