At the 2023 ISSF Globe Cup held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, India’s Nishal won the silver medal in the women’s 50m rifle three-position occasion. This podium added to India’s medal tally of two, with Elavenil Valarivan securing gold in the women’s 10m air rifle occasion. The Indian contingent consisted of 16 shooters, whilst the country’s athletes who had been in the Asian Games decided not to participate in the occasion. Saurabh Chaudhari, the reigning Asian Games champion, could not qualify for the men’s 10m air pistol final.

Generating her senior ISSF Globe Cup debut earlier this year in Baku, Nishal scored a final score of 458. in Rio, showcasing her expertise in the kneeling, prone and standing positions. She completed second behind Norway’s Jeanette Heg Duestad, a 3-time globe champion and Olympian, who won gold with a score of 461.five. Dane Stephanie Grundso won bronze with 447.six points.

Nishal’s journey started with an impressive elimination round score of 587. In the qualifying round for the finals, she surpassed Anjum Moudgil’s earlier national record of 591, set at the President’s Cup final year, by shooting an outstanding 592. Having said that, Miao Wanru of China, the reigning globe champion , topped the qualifiers with a score of 594, even though she completed fourth in the finals.

Though Anjum Moudgil and Aiushi Podder also competed in the women’s 50m rifle 3P occasion, they failed to safe a spot in the final eight. Moudgil completed 10th with a score of 586, whilst Podder was 35th with a score of 580.

The meet in Rio concluded the ISSF Rifle and Pistol Globe Cup events for 2023. The subsequent occasion, the ISSF Globe Cup Final, is scheduled to take spot in Doha, Qatar, from November 18-27.
