The Becker Forensic Science Center in San Antonio is responsible for identifying various narcotics, such as heroin, cocaine, marijuana and fentanyl, for criminal investigations. Scientists at the center handle these substances every day and work to solve the mysteries behind them. They analyze everything from large seizures to small amounts of narcotics before returning them to law enforcement officials. The most commonly tested substances are marijuana, methamphetamine, and cocaine, with methamphetamine being the most commonly identified drug. Scientists have also noticed an increase in counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, especially round blue pills with the imprint M30 and pills that resemble oxycodone. Despite the unpredictable nature of their work, scientists are committed to serving and helping their community by using the science behind their analyses.
