According to a recent report from Confcommercio Tourism Observatori and Svg, ten million Italians are planning to take advantage of the Easter holidays for a getaway. Of this number, two million are still undecided due to unclear weather conditions but have already packed their bags. Additionally, 8.5 million Italians have planned a trip for the long weekend of April 25th. The estimated cost of these holidays is around 3.5 billion euros or approximately 350 euros per person.

One interesting trend that has emerged in the past month is that many people have opted for shorter vacations closer to home rather than longer trips abroad. This is reflected in the fact that 61% of those surveyed will be spending only two nights at their destination, an increase of 12 percentage points compared to previous data. Despite this shift towards domestic travel, the number of Italians traveling abroad for Easter has risen slightly from 11% to 15%. Popular destinations include Spain, France and Austria.

When it comes to accommodation choices, most travelers (51%) opt for hotels or bed and breakfasts, while 30% choose to stay at home or visit family and friends during the holidays. Almost half (46%) of those staying in Italy during Easter plan on taking trips outside their region. Some popular destinations within Italy include Campania, Sicily and Puglia in the south and Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Tuscany in the north.

Despite concerns about things like weather and international tensions, Italians continue to be determined to travel during Easter weekends. The president of Confcommercio Tourism Observatori stated that he believes April offers great potential for tourism growth as more families are likely to take advantage of long weekends like Easter Sunday and Monday off work. However, supporting families’ spending capacity through tax reform is crucial if we want Italian tourism industry thrive further
