With the 2024 men’s basketball season quickly approaching, JMU is looking to fill its roster. The departure of head coach Mark Byington and the graduation of the team have left a void that needs to be filled. One key player that will be returning to JMU is rising junior guard Xavier Brown.

Brown had a standout sophomore season and showed off his scoring abilities and energetic defense. His return is crucial for the Dukes as he has the potential to be a standout player in the Sun Belt Conference. So far, there have been no new additions to the team through the transfer portal. However, there were a few departures that will affect the team’s roster for the upcoming season.

One of those departures was 2023-24 Sun Belt Player of the Year Terrence Edwards, who plans to test the NBA waters. Another was freshman standout Jailen Carey, who transferred to Vanderbilt, where he is expected to make a significant contribution. Raekwon Horton, a junior transfer, also left JMU after making an impact during his time on the team. And Justin Amadi, a striker who missed the previous season due to injury, also decided to leave the team.
