Joe Biden’s New Ad Targets Trump on Economic Issues in Battleground States: No Plan, No Hope for Middle Class

Ahead of Thursday’s first presidential debate, President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign is launching a new ad in Pennsylvania and Georgia aimed at contrasting him with former President Donald Trump on economic issues. The spot, titled “No Plan,” is part of the $50 million ad campaign in June and claims that Trump is “focused on revenge and has no plan to help the middle class. He would just give more tax breaks for the rich.”

The latest New York Times polling average shows Trump and Biden tied nationally at 46 percent head-to-head. In Pennsylvania, where the economy has proven to be a problematic issue for Biden, he maintains a slight lead over Trump with 48% to 46%. Despite a relatively low unemployment rate and steady job growth, Americans are kept in a gloomy mood about the economy due to high prices of many consumer goods.

To keep the focus on economic issues in Pennsylvania, the Biden campaign is holding events this week in Altoona, Erie and Pittsburgh. In an April ad featuring JoJo Burgess, a veteran steelworker and mayor of Washington, Pa., the Biden administration was highlighted as being focused on union workers. The campaign aims to contrast these events with those held by Trump during his presidency which were mostly geared towards revenge rather than addressing the needs of American people.

“The American people deserve better than a white-collar thief who is only in it for himself,” said Michael Tyler, communications director for the Biden campaign in a statement. “That’s why they fired Donald Trump in 2020 and that’s why Joe Biden will beat him again in November.”
