As the United States prepares to commemorate its independence, many Americans are planning barbecues, fireworks displays, and a day off from work. Independence Day marks a significant milestone in American history as it celebrates the birth of American independence when the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This year, July 4th falls on a Thursday.
Retail stores such as Target, Walmart, and Kroger will be open during their regular hours on the holiday. Sam’s Club will be open with adjusted hours for Plus and Club members only. Costco stores will remain closed for the day. Specialty grocers such as Whole Foods will also be open but Trader Joe’s locations will close early at 5 p.m.
The US Postal Service, UPS and most FedEx services have declared Independence Day as a holiday and will not deliver mail or packages on this day. Banks across the country have also closed their doors to customers on July 4th, along with non-essential government offices such as DMVs and public libraries. However, online banking services and ATMs remain available for those who need them to conduct financial transactions.
It is recommended that individuals check with local retailers and restaurants about their Independence Day hours before heading out to celebrate the holiday. All in all, July 4th is an opportunity to reflect on American history while enjoying time with family and friends.
