Scarlett Johansson recently attended the premiere of ‘Asteroid City’ in New York City on June 13th. She is now in talks to star in Universal’s new film Jurassic World, which will be released on July 2, 2025. The news was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, indicating that the film is moving quickly into production. Gareth Edwards directs the film and the screenplay is written by David Koepp, who previously worked on Jurassic Park. Edwards took over as director after David Leitch left the project shortly after joining.

This new role in Jurassic World marks a return to franchises for Johansson. Known for her role as Black Widow in various Marvel Studios films, she has also shown her talent in several other projects. Johansson received two Oscar nominations for her roles in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit. In addition, she voiced a character in the upcoming animated movie Transformers One and has a big budget movie with Channing Tatum coming out this year.

The Jurassic World franchise, which began with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993, has been going strong for over 30 years. It included sequels such as The Lost World (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001) before being revived by the successful Jurassic World (2015). This revival led to sequels such as Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Dominion (2022), starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Colin Trevorrow oversaw the most recent trilogy of films, and the upcoming film is expected to continue the legacy of this beloved franchise.

Johansson’s return to franchises comes after a string of successful independent projects. Her recent work includes Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit, both of which received critical acclaim and were nominated for Academy Awards.

Edwards brings his own unique vision to this iconic franchise with his direction skills. He directed Godzilla (2014) which was praised for its visual effects and action scenes.

The casting of Scarlett Johansson as one of the main characters adds another layer of excitement to this already anticipated film release date.

Overall, it seems like Universal is putting together an amazing team with an excellent script and direction that could lead to another hit installment of this beloved franchise.
