King Charles has finally addressed his cancer diagnosis for the first time, issuing a heartfelt statement to express his gratitude for the well-wishes he has received. In his statement released by Buckingham Palace, the monarch thanked everyone for the messages of support and well wishes he had received in recent days, admitting that such kind thoughts were a great comfort and encouragement.

Before the announcement, King Charles personally called his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, to break the news. Although Prince Harry has not publicly addressed the issue, he arrived in London the day after the news broke to meet his father in person.

The update comes nearly a week after the king’s cancer diagnosis was announced, which followed surgery to treat his enlarged prostate. King Charles also noted that sharing his own diagnosis helped to improve public understanding and shine a light on the work of organizations that support cancer patients and their families. He expressed his admiration for their tireless care and commitment, which grew as a result of his own experience with cancer.
