In a collaborative effort, non-profit research laboratory Kiutai was founded by Iliad Group, CMA CGM Group and Schmidt Futures. Each organization contributed $110 million in funding towards the project, with Schmidt Futures joining as a co-founder to create a strong partnership based on shared commitment.
Kiutai is dedicated to open artificial intelligence (AI) research and aims to tackle the main challenges of modern AI, including the development of large multimodal models and new algorithms to improve their capacity, reliability and efficiency. The lab has already assembled a team of researchers with both academic and business experience.
Rodolphe Saade, President and CEO of CMA CGM Group stated that the new investment in AI would provide opportunities for the younger generation to benefit from all that this technology has to offer. Kyutai will enable researchers to have access to all the resources they need to create and invent the world of tomorrow. This is an ambitious venture that will bring together some of the world’s best experts to solve the challenges of artificial intelligence.
Xavier Niel, Chairman and Founder of Iliad Group commented on Europe’s potential to win the AI race by leveraging its strengths in research expertise, computing power, and dynamic AI ecosystem. By creating an open research lab in Paris, Kiutai will accelerate this process even further. The lab will provide ultra-high-performance, reliable AI models that will be accessible to the entire European AI ecosystem.
Patrick Perez, CEO of Kiutai added that they are building an exceptional research team and are immersing themselves in the main challenges of modern artificial intelligence. They look forward to sharing their first results with
