On November 19, 2023 at 5:00 PM HST, Hawaii Public Schools received a total of 10 grants from the Bayer Fund – Hawaii Science Education Grants. The recipients of these grants included Eva Makai High School, HP Baldwin High School, ʻIao School, ʻIlima High School, Kaimuki High School, Kihei High School, Lahaina High School, Lahainaluna High School and McKinley High School.
The funds awarded are aimed at supporting a range of STEM-related activities. Some of the projects include a macro propagation project, a drone building program, a hydroponics project, a community garden and the purchase of equipment and supplies for earth science, marine biology, life science and forensic science classes.
The Bayer Fund grant program was established in 2005 with the goal of providing additional tools and resources to enhance science education in Hawaii public schools. This initiative also aims to inspire students to pursue careers in science in the future.
The grant program is available twice a year and is open to public schools on Oahu, Maui and Molokai where Bayer employees live and work. Public schools that serve middle school through college students for science-related educational purposes are eligible to apply for the grant.
