On Monday, November 23, Jane Bentham, Associate Editor of Global Mining Review, published an article on Freeport-McMoRan’s decision to award Metso an order for a tank material handling solution for their El Paso power refinery in Texas, USA. The value of the order exceeded EUR 10 million and was recorded in the received orders of Metso’s Minerals segment in the 4th quarter of 2013.
Metso’s scope of supply includes Outotec anode preparation and cathode stripping machines, both based on proven designs that ensure high safety and long-term reliability. These machines use modern robotic electrode handling to optimize the layout and efficiency of material handling in the existing refinery.
Mikko Rantaharju, Vice President, Hydrometallurgy Business Line at Metso, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership between Metso and Freeport-McMoRan on this important project. He stated that he is confident that their technology will ensure high efficiency and quality copper production at the El Paso copper electrorefinery after modernization. The solution will combine Metso’s years of experience with similar equipment with modern robotic technology to meet the material handling requirements of the existing tank.
