The media company, Midco Sports, recently laid off several employees, including well-known TV personalities. Sources informed the Forum that on-air voices Brian Schon, David Brown, Jody Norstead and others were informed of the move on Tuesday. The reason for the layoffs was budget cuts.

According to Paige Pearson Meyer, vice president of corporate communications for Midco Sports, the company plans to enhance streaming content on Midco Sports Plus and university affiliate content on its linear channels Midco Sports and Midco Sports Two. This change has led to the unfortunate decision to reduce the number of permanent team members in the Midco Sports team. However, Pearson Meyer noted that some of these employees could potentially work as freelancers.

Midco Sports has contracts to broadcast UND football, hockey, men’s and women’s basketball games, SDSU and USD football, men’s and women’s basketball games, and Augustana hockey. The company communicated its changes to the athletic departments of the schools with which it has partnerships and assured them that these layoffs would not affect their contracts.

TV personalities like Bill Chavez have expressed confidence in the ongoing partnerships between Midco Sports and North Dakota State University (UND). Brian Shawn served as an announcer for North Dakota State football before transferring to UND while Jody Norstedt focused on high school athletics in North Dakota. These individuals are household names in the world of sports broadcasting.

In addition to cancellations of some events like quarterfinals and semifinals of Summit League men’s and women’s basketball tournaments over the years; other employees like Jay Elsen and Taylor Budge were kept at their locations by Midco Sports reflect a shift in focus towards streaming content and university partnerships.

Overall, this change signifies a new direction for Midco Sports towards enhancing its streaming content while also strengthening its relationships with universities through more comprehensive coverage on their channels.
