New Science Program in Danville School District Empowers Students to Solve Problems and Build a Strong Academic Foundation

The Danville District 118 School Board recently approved an expenditure of $76,100 for a pilot science program designed for students in grades five through eight. MaryEllen Bunton, the district’s director of curriculum, discussed the new program during a recent board meeting on July 3.

The program, called “Science Amplification,” aims to engage students by presenting them with problems and encouraging them to explore solutions. Through materials and activities, it aims to spark students’ curiosity and provide them with a solid academic foundation.

The district plans to introduce a pilot program in the upcoming fall semester at various schools including North Ridge Middle School, South View Elementary School, Kenneth D. Bailey and Northeast Magnet School. Director Bunton emphasized the importance of allowing students to start with a problem and then work to find a solution as part of the program’s approach.
