Mark S. Wrighton, James and Mary Werch Distinguished University Professor at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed as the chair of the St. Louis Science Center’s board of trustees. His tenure began on January 1st. As the new leader of the Science Center’s board, Wrighton collaborates closely with the institution’s president on initiatives to enhance its operations and impact.
The St. Louis Science Center is dedicated to making science, technology, engineering, and mathematics accessible to people across the region through interactive experiences. It is among the few free, nonprofit science museums in the country that attracts almost half a million visitors annually and ranks among the largest science centers globally.
Wrighton’s background includes an impressive record of research achievements in photochemistry, surface chemistry, and electrochemistry before he transitioned into university administration. Prior to his appointment as chair of the Science Center’s board of trustees, Wrighton had served on its board of directors for many years and was actively involved in shaping its strategic direction.
