Browns quarterback Nick Chubb suffered a serious injury and had to be carted off the field. The team quickly confirmed that he injured his left knee and ruled him out of the game. During the live broadcast, ABC announcer Joe Buck informed viewers that the network would show a replay of the injury. Analyst Troy Aikman added that it was a particularly serious injury, which caused concern among the crowd. A replay was shown, and the crowd reacted with an audible gasp when they saw Chubb’s knee collapse after colliding with Minkah Fitzpatrick during a 5-yard run to the Pittsburgh 3. Fitzpatrick also sat down briefly after the collision. Notably, this is the same knee that Chubb previously underwent reconstructive surgery on while playing for Georgia.
Despite the unfortunate injury, Chubb already made an impact in the game with 10 carries for 64 yards. As Chubb left the court, players from both teams expressed good wishes for his recovery. Additionally, Steelers fans even chanted Chubb’s name in support. After Chubb’s injury, the Browns were able to take the lead in the next game. Quarterback Deshaun Watson connected with running back Jerome Ford for a 3-yard touchdown. Ford then successfully ran in the 2-point conversion, giving the Browns an 11-7 lead.
In other injury news, the Steelers announced that receiver Gunner Olszewski was evaluated for a head injury and his return to action is uncertain.
